Distributed passive acoustic detection and localization
A network of acoustic sensing nodes that detects and localizes low-altitude drones without relying on the target's control, video or telemetry links. Each node listens on an eight-microphone array and computes direction locally, so what travels between nodes is a bearing rather than raw audio.
How it is built
Three custom circuit boards carry the system: an acquisition board running eight synchronized channels off a shared sampling clock, the microphone carriers, and the clock and data distribution boards that hold physically separated nodes on one time base across tens of metres of cable.
Electronics, firmware, signal processing, enclosure design and field testing were all developed in-house. The platform has been validated against surveyed ground truth and against a drone tracked by RTK-GPS; the detection page carries the methodology and the measured results.
